Millennium Marathon, Ghana’s premier road-running event, hosted a Corporate Wellness Forum in Accra, bringing together corporate leaders, HR professionals, and wellness experts to champion healthier, more productive workplaces.
The forum, which took place at The Mix, Osu, focused on the intersection of employee health,
Workplace productivity and corporate culture. This initiative aligns with Millennium Marathon’s broader mission to promote wellness, active lifestyles, and community development across Ghana.
“Corporate wellness is no longer optional — it’s a business imperative,” said Cathy Morton, CEO of Millennium Marathon. “Through this forum, we aim to equip businesses with actionable insights and strategies to prioritise employee wellbeing, boost productivity, and reduce workplace stress.”
The Corporate Wellness Forum is designed for organisations looking to invest in the health of their employees, promote a culture of wellness, and strengthen corporate performance. It is part of Millennium Marathon’s commitment to extending the benefits of fitness, wellness, and community engagement beyond running and into corporate spaces.
The Forum consisted of three panels. The first panel discussed: ‘Integrating Wellness into Corporate Culture’, and featured industry leaders Salah Kalmoni, Executive Director at Silver Star Tower; Andrea Akl, Deputy General Manager at Qualiplast Ltd, and Noalina Kuukua Slippi- Mensah, Head of Human Capital at Investcorp Ghana.
The second panel focused on: ‘Work Life Integration in the Modern Corporate World’, featuring Gideon Ataraire, CEO Impact Life Insurance; Kwasi Tabury, CEO MyHealthCop, and Dr Elton Fredrick Afari, CEO Equity Health Insurance.
Finally, the third panel brought together prominent running clubs to highlight: ‘Running Clubs, a Clear Pathway to Wellness.’ Gigi Rose Mann from R& R Wellness led the discussion with Ernest Bediako Sampong, Lead Partner at Runner Alliance; Kevin Atikpui, Operations Lead at Accra Active Club, and Abdul-Samed Shaibu, a Runfluencer.
Guest speakers included the Director General for National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, and Programmes Manager for KGL Foundation, Nii Sarpei Annorbah Ankornu.
Participants enjoyed:
- Expert-led sessions on physical fitness, mental health, nutrition, and stress management
- Interactive workshops on workplace wellness strategies and team-building activities
- Networking opportunities for executives, HR managers, and wellness professionals
The event also featured discussions on trending workplace wellness topics, practical implementation tips, and success stories from companies that have championed employee health initiatives.
“We believe that healthier employees lead to stronger companies,” adds Race Manager Ernest Boamah. “This forum is an opportunity for companies to learn, connect, and take tangible steps towards building sustainable wellness programmes.”
Physical activity boosts productivity, as highlighted in international research conducted by Harvard Business Review, 2018. It shows that employees who exercise regularly have 21% higher productivity and 27% lower absenteeism. In addition, a 2021 survey conducted by the Ghana Employers Association indicated that 1 in 4 employees reported stress or burnout at work. This, in turn, affected team collaboration and overall efficiency.
Millennium Marathon also launched a new initiative, the ‘Health & Fitness Index’, an annual publication that will rank corporate organisations by their overall health and wellbeing credentials and assess the importance they place on workplace wellness.
