Mr. Richard Akpokavie Esq, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has commended the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) for organising a free, peaceful election on Saturday, July 18, at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium.
He hailed the newly elected executive and urged them to work together with those who lost to have a united front.
He said after Elections no more campaigning or taking sides, but the Federation members should come together and focus on the development and promotion of the sport.
He expressed that the Federation must ensure that Ghana is well represented in Taekwondo at the 2028 Olympic Games since one athlete, Henritta Armah, is on an Olympic solidarity scholarship and must be good enough to represent the nation.
Mr. Mohammed Muniru Kassim Esq, Secretary General of the GOC, who was a member of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation Vetting and Election Committee for the Elective Congress, also commended the delegates and all officials who ensured order and peace at the Elections.
The three-man committee that vetted and organised the event was chaired by Mr. Lawrence Osei-Boateng Esq. of Ghana Free Zones Authority, with the GOC Secretary General, Mr. Mohammed Muniru Kassim Esq, and Hussien Addy of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Incumbent President of the Federation, Mr. Frederick Lartey Otu, retained his position with 16 votes against Charles Tsibo Cromwell from Takoradi, who had 11 votes.
Mr. Maxwell Theodore Alornyo is the new Vice President, while Simon Koku Gluikpor and Kankpenuba Peter Nuntaa Wisdom were elected as new executive members.
They will steer affairs of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation for the next four years.
