Going For Gold In Glasgow – Team Ghana Gets Set To Participate In 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana (CGA) has officially confirmed Ghana’s participation in the upcoming Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland.

President of Commonwealth Games Association Ghana, Mr. Richard Akpokovie Esq. revealed to the media plans and preparations made ahead of the Games scheduled for 23rd July to 2nd August, 2026.

He recalled some of the achievements of Ghanaians at the Games previously held in Kingston, Jamaica, Edmonton, Canada, and Birmingham, Scotland, saying Team Ghana is expected to field about 40 athletes, who will proudly represent the nation in nine disciplines, with preparations intensified for one of the Commonwealth’s biggest sporting events.

Mr. Akpokavie mentioned the disciplines as Athletics (Track & Field), Boxing, Judo, Swimming, Para Sports, among others. He said some sporting events have been left out of this year’s competition, so only a few athletes and officials are going to represent the nation.

The CGA President assured stakeholders that all efforts are being made to ensure Team Ghana is well-prepared to fly the national flag high in Glasgow and make the nation proud.

Meanwhile, THB, an indigenous company, has been unveiled as the Official Kit supplier of Team Ghana, providing the team’s competition and ceremonial apparel for the Games. They are going to deliver Team Ghana with all the apparel, bags, towels, slippers, and water bottles.

Present at the well-attended Press Conference held at the Central Hotel at Ridge on Tuesday were the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who represented the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Chairman of the Ghana House project, Hon. Kobby Woyome, Mr. Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee, former world boxing champion Professor Azumah Nelson, super athlete Margaret Simpson, some champion para athletes, Zinabu Issah, Tahiru Haruna, and Botsyo Nkegbe, as well as board members of the CGA.

President of the Ghana Boxing Federation, Dauda Fuseni, was also present, and he assured boxing fans that the Black Bombers, who are currently in camp, will come home with an improved performance.

“I can assure you that we will improve upon Birmingham 2022 and come with gold,” he expressed.

Mr. Ernest Danso, the CDM of Team Ghana, also added that the preparation is on point and the athletes in camp are responding positively.

He spoke about the number of media and volunteers who have applied in numbers and prayed that the best would come out.

In another development, the CGA has coined a new slogan to motivate the athletes in Glasgow.

Team Ghana – Feel the Power

Team Ghana – We Dare To Win
