Electoral Commission Reaffirms Readiness to Conduct Credible Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, transparent, and credible elections across Ghana, assuring citizens that it remains prepared to fulfil its constitutional mandate whenever elections or by-elections are required.

The Commission says ensuring a credible electoral process requires careful planning, strong coordination, and the cooperation of all stakeholders. It explained that preparations involve the training of election officials, assessment of polling stations, organisation of logistics, and continuous review of systems to improve efficiency.

The EC noted that elections are an important part of Ghana’s democratic development and therefore every effort must be made to protect the confidence citizens have in the electoral system.

The Commission has assured the public that it will continue to uphold the principles of fairness, neutrality, and transparency while carrying out its responsibilities.

As part of its preparations, the EC is expected to strengthen voter education programmes to help citizens understand electoral procedures, their rights and responsibilities before, during, and after elections.

The Commission believes that a well-informed electorate contributes greatly to peaceful and successful elections. It has therefore encouraged citizens to participate actively and make decisions based on credible information.

The EC has also called on political parties and candidates to support a peaceful electoral environment by respecting election laws and encouraging their supporters to act responsibly.

It stressed that democracy goes beyond voting and requires tolerance, respect for different opinions, and a commitment to resolving disagreements through lawful means.

The Commission further warned against activities such as spreading false information, voter intimidation, destruction of electoral materials, and other acts that could undermine the credibility of the electoral process.

It has encouraged the media to play a responsible role by providing accurate information, educating the public, and avoiding content that could create unnecessary tension among citizens.

Security agencies are also expected to support the electoral process by ensuring the safety of voters, election officials, political party agents, observers, and journalists.

The EC believes that effective collaboration between electoral authorities, security institutions, political parties, and citizens is necessary to guarantee peaceful elections.

Meanwhile, governance experts have emphasised that credible elections help promote national development, accountability, and stability. They say that when citizens trust the electoral system, it strengthens democracy and encourages greater participation in national affairs.

Some citizens have also called on the Commission to continue improving election processes, addressing concerns raised by stakeholders, and adopting measures that will make future elections more transparent and efficient.

The Electoral Commission has maintained that its ultimate goal is to ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to exercise their democratic right in a peaceful and secure environment.

The Commission has therefore appealed to all Ghanaians to protect the peace of the country and support efforts aimed at strengthening democratic governance.

As the country prepares for future electoral activities, the EC says it remains committed to delivering elections that reflect the true choice of the people and uphold Ghana’s democratic reputation.
