Ghana’s Amadu Mohammed got a bronze medal for Team Ghana after reaching the men’s 55kg semifinals, where Australia’s Luke Lyle defeated him at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
But the Ghanaian boxer shed tears in the ring after the verdict was declared.
He told journalists that “this is not the colour of medal I wanted. I want the ultimate gold, but I will be back better as this is the will of God,” he expressed.
Amadu Mohammed, who trains under Coach Zico, aka Gabriel Allotey, at the Sea View Boxing Club, was the only Ghanaian to win a medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, out of ten boxers sent to represent Ghana.
He has already been decorated with a Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Award, and he is destined to grab his second Award from the media body.
Amadu Mohammed won gold for Ghana at the 2023 African Games, and if he is prepared very well with much exposure and quality motivation, he can do well at the next Olympic Games.
Ghana won two silver (one for boxing) and three bronze (two for boxing) medals at the last Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
