Adisadel Old Boys (Santaclausians), featuring a strong team of active golf players, performed marvelously with some exciting strokes to beat Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) by a difference of three points to retain the Jonah Cup, making their fifth victory at the Achimota Golf Club on Friday, July 4, 2025.
MOBA Golf (spotting their favourite red and black), who won the first two tournaments, had planned to tie with their opponents to make it four all, but could not match the strong presentation of the team in white and black.
Joe Tieku, Mike Aggrey, Martin Osei, President Eddie Nustugah, Benjy Cudjoe, and Smyly Bannerman with Captain Dr Asimenu did well, but the Santaclusians were better on the day.
This year, which is the eighth edition of the competition, was played in an exhilarating atmosphere at the Achimota Club, where the players had much fanfare after the game.
The SANTA Team comprised President David Atuwo, Capt (rtd) Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Okoe Allotey, the Abrokwah brothers, ace leftie Dr. Alifu, and Captain Dr. Kweku Appeatu Ankrah.
Dr. Sir Sam Jonah, in whose honour the tournament was played, shared some jokes before presenting the giant trophy to the Captain of the SANTA Golf team, amidst excessive funfair as they sang cheerfully and took memorable pictures.
He announced that the next tournament will be held in Kumasi, the Garden City.
Dr. Ernest Asimenu, Captain of MOBA MOBA Golf, promised that they would go back to the drawing board and train harder to win the Kumast edition. He congratulated the winners on their victory.
Dr. Appietu-Ankrah, Captain of SANTA Golf, noted that they will keep on winning because they are always the best.
“Our opponent should forget Kumasi, because we are winning everywhere,” he expressed.
Former President of the Ghana Golf Association, Mr. Michael Aggre, told Your Truly, “The purpose of this event is to create friendship and rapport, so I think the objective was achieved,” he said.
