Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Peace Cup Match launched

The annual charity peace cup match played in honour of Dr. Nii Ayi Bonte II, the Gbese Mantse and Adonten of the Ga State, was launched on Thursday in Accra.

This year will see defending champions, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kpando Heart of Lions playing for honours on August 17, 202,5, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

At stake is a giant trophy plus prizes for Best Player, Best Defender, and Best Goalkeeper.

Mr. Samuel Anim Addo of Golden Star Consult,  the organizers, said the match is a special one to promote tourism, peace, and unity in the country.

He noted that there would be a float to put out the cup and create awareness.

Mr. Anim Addo urged football fans to come to the stadium and patronise the match to boost tourism and the rich heritage of the Ga people and Ghanaians in general.

He hinted that the organizers are in talks with musicians like Bukom Banku, Tinny, King Jerry, Klala and others to entertain the fans. He also announced the gate fee for Popular Stand as only 5ghc, while the VIP will go for 100ghc.

Nii Armah Okpa, Ayaalolo, and Korle Wonko chief who represented the Gbese Mantse, gave some background on the ban on drumming and noise making that preceded the Homowo Festival and the need for development in peace and unity.

Representatives of Hearts of Oak and Hearts of Lions boasted about their chances.

While Mr. Opare Addo, the PRO of the Phobians, promised a sweet repeat, Mr Stephen Botchway of Heart of Lions noted that they will avenge last year’s defeat with a victory within a short time.
