Daniel Plange’s Commonwealth Games Dream Over

Daniel Plange suffered a complete 0-5 defeat to William John McCartan of Northern Ireland in the men’s 90+ kg division at the 2026 Commonwealth Games to end his dream of winning a Commonwealth Games medal in Glasgow.

Medal hopeful Precious Akai Nettey of Attoh Quarshie Gym also lost to Marvin Clair of Mauritius in a unanimous decision in the men’s 70kg boxing quarterfinal event, and missed out on the medal zone.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Desmond Pappoe, the pride of Jamestown Boxing Club, is ruled out of the 80 kg quarterfinal against Joshua Ofori of Canada on doctor’s advice due to injury. His 2026 Commonwealth Games are over, and very sad.

Jibril Muntari, who boxes from the Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation, was also beaten 0-5 unanimously against Garyn McAllister of Northern Ireland in the men’s 90 kg (heavyweight) quarterfinal in boxing.

Ghana’s only guaranteed medalist in boxing is Mamprobi-based Amadu Mohammed, who seeks a spot in Saturday’s gold medal fight against Jye Dixon of Australia in the men’s 55 kg (bantamweight) semi-finals tomorrow, Friday 31 July at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
