Amadu Mohammed, a boxer from the Sea View Boxing Gym at Jamestown in Accra, is the only hope for Ghana to win a medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
He has already been guaranteed a medal after he qualified for the semi-final, but Mohammed loves the best and will go for the ultimate gold and winning bonus of $10,000.
It has not been easy for the boxer, who lost his dad at a tender age and was taken care of by his coach, Gabriel Allotey, who also lost his training grounds because the family of the place where they train wanted their property.
So the boxers at Sea View moved to the neighbouring Winneba Power Gym to train, and Mohammed was among them. Though he was sad, he complied, but training at the Winneba Sports College gave him some peace of mind.
And as it is already written that he shall excel and become a superstar, it must be fulfilled.
He has already represented Ghana at some international boxing programmes, and he is the African Champion after claiming gold at the 2023 African Games.
Amadu has once been recognized and honoured by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and will certainly be going for his second SWAG Award.
Before he was selected to be part of Team Ghana, Amadu had promised he would shine, and this is the time that God has made.
Out of the ten boxers representing Ghana at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, he is the hope of the Black Bombers. Seven male and three female boxers were presented, and he has come out as the shining star. Yours Truly and Friends of Boxing wish him the best.
Meanwhile, Zinabu Issah, a para athlete, has won Ghana’s first and only medal, a silver, at the 23rd Commonwealth Games.
