Boxing Consultant, Yoofi Boham, has backed constitutional amendments at the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and advised stakeholders to vote for officers who will take professional boxing to the next level, not people with self-interest.
“Yes, the constitution must be updated to fall in consonance with present-day practice,” he stressed.
In an exclusive interview on The Big Fight Night on Omashi TV, he expressed that the GBA constitution needs to be amended to conform to current trends.
He said definitely some regulations should be removed and others updated, to suit all the world boxing bodies.
According to Boham, since Ghana Boxing experienced two tragic incidents last year involving Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwsegun and Ghanaian Ernest Akushey aka Bahubali, mistakes must not be repeated, and lessons must be learnt for progress.
He was happy that the Medical Commission of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) is now strictly ensuring that all protocols are met before bouts are sanctioned.
Boham advised promoters to prepare well before coming out to announce their bills. He also tasked matchmakers not to be selfish and work hard and well so that boxing lovers and fans can watch boxing live every two weeks.
The IMC of the Ghana Boxing Authority, chaired by Samir Captan, has made it known that 2nd June is the date for the Elections and handing over is on 4th June.
Former president Abraham Kotei Neequaye handed over to second vice president Roger Barnor before the NSA and Ministry of Sports and Recreation took over the management and administration of professional boxing in Ghana.
Mr. Rabbon Dodoo, former first vice president and ace promoter and manager, as well as events/hospitality and travel specialist Ivan Bruce Cudjoe, are the personalities who have shown interest in leading the Ghana Boxing Authority.
