The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has reminded motorists to take extra care when transporting children, particularly those below the age of 12.
The Director of Research, Training and Education at the MTTD, ACP Alexander Obeng, said children below 12 should not occupy the front passenger seat of vehicles.
He advised drivers and parents to ensure that such children are seated at the back and properly secured with seat belts.
The directive is part of efforts to improve child safety and reduce the risk of serious injuries during road crashes.
Road safety experts have stressed that children seated in the front can face greater risks during crashes, making the rear seat a safer position when young passengers are properly restrained.
ACP Obeng is therefore urging parents, guardians and drivers to make child safety a priority by ensuring children are properly seated and secured before every journey.
He also advised motorists to make sure seat belts are properly fastened before starting their vehicles, stressing that road safety should not be taken for granted.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to educate children on the importance of remaining seated at the back and keeping their seat belts fastened throughout the journey.
The MTTD says compliance with road safety measures is essential to protecting children and reducing preventable injuries on Ghana’s roads.
