The fifth edition of the Osu Duku Football Championship has kicked off at the Osu Presby SHS Park on Wednesday with Ga Mashie XI edging out Nungua XI in both male and female football.
Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Mr. John K. Ansah, and President of African Women In Sports (AWISA) graced the occasion with words of advice to the participants and spectators.
Mr. Ansah commended the organisers and urged the players and officials to abide by the rules of the competition and exhibit fair play and good football, as a scout or agent may be watching and pick one or two players.
Mrs. Joyce Mahama, who is also President of Women Sports Association (WOSPAG), was excited that the ladies exhibited good football and urged them to play well to be selected into the national team.
She recalled that the national female football team, the Black Queens, were the first to qualify Ghana to the FIFA World Cup and that achievement is historic.
She also hailed the organisers of the Duku Sports Festival for their excellent organisation and the fans for comporting themselves.
Teams participating are drawn from Osu, Teshie, La, Nungua, Adabraka, Nima, Ga Mashie and Mayera.
The community competition, which is to create wellness, empowerment, peace and unity as well as unearth talent, started on July 29 and will end on August 8, 2026.
The organisers hoped to improve upon last year’s programme and thanked their sponsors, which include Dot. Atelier, Backyard and Bethel Logistics.
