Commonwealth Games Boxing debutant Jibril Muntar, who represented Ghana in the 90kg weight category, has promised to come back better after he lost 0-5 to Garyn McAllister of England on Tuesday.
According to Muntar, his opponent got the day and the victory, but if they fight again, he will win. “Yes, he is a strong guy. Allister won today, but when we fight again I will win because I have learnt a lot; this is my first international experience, and I promise to be back better,” he told journalists at the Games.
In boxing, six reps are out while Amadu Mohammed has been assured a medal after he qualified for the semi-final to face Australian Lye Dixon in the 55kg category. Desmond Pappoe will face Joshua Ofori, a Ghanaian Canadian, in his next bout, Men’s 80kg, on Wednesday.
On the same day, Precious Akai Nettey will also meet Merven Clair in the 70kg Light Middleweight quarter-final, while Daniel Plange, who is yet to taste the ring, takes on Willie John McCarton from Northern Ireland in the Super Heavyweight 90+ category.
Meanwhile, Abeiku Jackson qualified for the semi-final in 50meters swimming at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
The good news for Ghana at Glasgow is that Zinabu Issah won a silver medal in Women’s T57 Shot Put, and she has been promised £2,000 by the President of the National Paralympic Committee.
