Sports Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Fair Elections and Athlete Protection in Ghana Swimming – Hon. Kofi Adams

Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the integrity of swimming in Ghana and safeguarding the interests of Ghanaian athletes.

Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, Hon. Adams said the Ministry intervened in the Ghana Swimming Association after stakeholders raised concerns over governance, transparency, and the conduct of elections within the Association.

“Through dialogue and engagement with all parties, including the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Electoral Commission, and athlete representatives, a framework was established to oversee fair elections and promote stability within the sport,” he stated.

The Minister acknowledged the recognition issues raised by World Aquatics but stressed that the Ministry’s position remains centered on stakeholder engagement, transparency, and protecting athletes’ interests.

“The Ministry remains committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure a credible resolution that restores confidence and upholds the integrity of the sport,” Hon. Adams said.

He added that the government’s role is not to interfere in the autonomy of sport, but to create an environment where athletes are protected, and the sport can thrive.
