Jamestown Boxing Club To Be Sanctioned For Causing Disorder At Individual Championships

… Owoo Of Wisdom Boxing Club To Lose Slot To Finals

The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), in its efforts to stamp its authority on challenged decisions and behaviors of boxers, officials, clubs, and even boxing fans have taken some vital disciplinary measures and decisions to ensure fairness in verdicts at the recent successful National Individual Amateur Boxing Championship.

News indicates that Jamestown Boxing Club whoses supporters and fans caused some mayhem during the second day of the competition, would be fined to warn other gyms/ clubs and their supporters/ fans.

The fans were unhappy with the results of the fight between Samuel Plange and Owoo of the Wisdom Boxing Gym.

Everyone saw that Plange had fought well and deserved the victory, but the referee raised Lionel Owoo’s hand, which caused the fans to riot.

The cornermen of Plange protested vehemently, and when officials called for the score sheet, it was nowhere to be found.

Meanwhile, an independent observer team set up by the GBF said Plange won the fight, so on Friday, 27th February, Samuel Plange would be fighting Daniel Amoo of Sea View in the Light Flyweight-48kg category.

Last Friday, assistant trainer at the Jamestown Boxing Club, Nuhu Omaboe, was on Omashi TV’s top sports programme, and he confirmed that the GBF has sat on the case and decided.

Coach Randy Amugi, who is the head coach at Jamestown, noted that the best boxers must be selected, with no favoritism.

“If we are beaten fairly, we will understand, but not when we see that we are being cheated. We know the new GBF will be fair and firm,” he expressed.

Meanwhile, Coach Dr. Ofori Asare of Wisdom Boxing Club says he has yet to receive a letter to inform him of the decision.

He expressed that once the GBF wants to bring in fairness, he has no problem because Ghana deserves the best.
