Hon Kotey Ashie Institutes Annual Special Juvenile And Amateur Boxing Showdown – ‘The MPs Punch’

Hon Alfred Kotey Ashie, MP for Odododiodoo Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, is organising a Special Amateur and Juvenile Boxing Showdown at the famous Bukom Square Park to unearth talents for the National Boxing Teams.

It is dubbed ‘The MPs Punch’ and is being organised in collaboration with the United Coaches Association of Ghana to celebrate Boxing Day, December 26, 2025, starting from 7 pm. All are invited.

In an exclusive interview, Hon. Kotey Ashie revealed that his constituency is the undisputed factory of Ghana Boxers. Every region or place can produce good boxers, but he prays that people should not bring politics or tribalism into boxing in particular and sports in general.

According to Hon. Ashie, though the Greater Accra Region has produced most of the world champions for Ghana, they see themselves as Ghanaians first. He noted that the recent Freezy Macbones versus Jonathan Tetteh should not divide Ghanaians but rather unite and teach lessons, as the two boxers looked tired and showed a lack of training in their stamina, while the promoters have raised the bar in quality show organization.

He promised that boxers who perform well would be rewarded with some fantastic Christmas presents. He advised the young boxers to report on time and always show discipline.

Meanwhile, Hon Ashie has also extended his warm greeting to the Ghana Boxing Federation as they go for elections on Saturday, December 2, 2025, and hopes that the best candidates will win to push Ghana Boxing forward as Africa hosts the next Youth Olympic Games in Senegal and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.

He congratulated the four young boxers who represented Ghana at the African Youth Games in Angola, and all brought home medals.
