Sports should not struggle under NDC, because we have the men – Ben Nunoo Mensah (Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira I) Immediate past President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah believes Ghana Sports must do well and not struggle in the current political dispensation. While sharing some moments with the lone bronze medalist at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Amadu Mohammed, he revealed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has experienced sporting administrators like Ernest Thompson, himself, B.T. Baba, Albert K. Frimpong, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Samson Deen, Kofi Mainoo, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and others who can be consulted for a strategic plan to salvage Ghana Sports. It looks like the nation is stagnant in the realms of international sports while others are developing and investing in human resources and infrastructure. HRH Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira I as he is known said Ghana is blessed with talent in every sport, even winter sports but the passion of sports in Ghana is also on another level as it fluctuates going up and down. He served as President of the GOC for eight years and in his reign Ghana won a bronze medal, first time in 29 years and also five medals at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. He expressed that one has to consult a lot and be humble in leadership to learn more. He commended the athletes who represented Ghana at the recent Commonwealth Games and pray they would perform better. He commended Amadu Mohammed for keeping the fire burning in the camp of the Black Bombers by bringing home a medal. Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira I who is Ga Noryaa Mantse presented GHC 5,000 to Amadu on a promise to the Black Bomber if he reaches the medal zone. He missed the GHC 15,000 for gold and GHC 10,000 for silver. Ben Nunoo Mensah is a boxing fan, however he became President of. Ghana Weightlifting Federation and served on their continental board.
