New Black Bombers head coach Akai Nettey appeals for support

Coach Vincent Akai Nettey, newly appointed head coach of the Ghana national boxing team, the Black Bombers, has invited boxing fans to come to the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, October 10, 2026, to see the new Black Bombers in action.

According to the star-rated trainer, who is known as a disciplinarian, the new Bombers want to make history, and they are privileged to fight against an American team from Metro Detroit Golden Gloves.

“We know the United States of America (USA) is the country where boxing is most popular, and they have the best boxers and most world champions, so we have also prepared for them, and we promise to give boxing fans a night to remember,” he told Yours Truly in an exclusive interview.

According to Coach Nettey, who has been to the African Games and Olympic Games, he has learnt a lot over the years from his predecessors, and he will combine all that he knows and impart it to the team.

He hoped to get massive support from his deputy, Charles Quartey, and assistant coaches, namely, Lartekwei Lartey, Robert Tetteh, Elvis Robertson and Joseph Martey, who handle the national youth team. The Black Rockets.

Vincent Akai Nettey is the head coach of the Attoh Quarshie Boxing Club, one of the oldest boxing gyms in Accra.

He is also the lead coach of the Bessesaka Foundation that combines education and sports, specifically boxing.

He believes Ghana Boxing always has a future because the youth of Ghana love boxing, and they are in need of opportunities to excel.

He appealed to the government to support amateur boxing in a direction that will motivate clubs to work harder.
