
Relegated Nations FC made history as they beat Dreams FC on penalties to lift the 2025/2026 MTN FA Cup at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon on Sunday.
After an exciting game which ended 1-1, the winner had to be decided by penalties, and the Nations team led by Black Stars player, Razak Simpson, won the day by a 5-4 scoreline.
Dreams started the game on a fast note, trying to grab the first goal and wasted many chances, but it was Nations who went ahead through Joseph Effah in the 31st minute.
The ding-dong battle saw the ball swinging from both ends of the pitch, and the players doing their best till Dreams got their goal through Abdul Razak Salifu. The forward finished off a flowing move with a powerful header after excellent combination play and a precise cross into the goal area.
Salifu’s goal not only restored parity for Dreams but also took his tally to six goals in this season’s competition, moving him to the top of the FA Cup scoring chart and putting him in pole position for the Golden Boot award.
The penalty shoot-out decided the winner, and Nations FC carried the trophy for the first time. Indeed, history was made because they had been relegated from the Ghana Premiership, and they managed to win the FA Cup to get the opportunity to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederations Cup.
It was a great joy for their fans, and they jubilated all night long. Skipper Razak Simpson could not help but shed tears of joy after the game.
Before the final match of the MTN FA Cup, some machomen displayed their power and might to the amazement of fans as they brought in the prestigious trophy.
