SWAG Boxer of the year 2025, Mathias Ashitey, who turned 19 on Saturday, 23rd May, is dreaming big to become a gold medalist at the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the LA Olympic Games in 2028.
After winning the African Youth Games Championship gold medal and a few international visits, the Jamestown boy believes he can make it.
Starting boxing at a very tender age, visiting gyms, he settled at the Black Panthers Boxing Gym and under Coach Ebenezer Adjei, aka Killer, he has developed and graduated from the Black Rockets (U18) to the elite youth and hopes to shine with the Black Bombers (A18).
Mathias Ashitey recently had the privilege of joining the Bukom Boxing Gym and Ghana Boxing Federation team together with Precious Akai Nettey for an international exchange programme in Paris, France.
He said it was a good trip for him in shaping his mind, perspective, and calming him as he focuses on the future.
The product of Kinbu SHS has decided to choose boxing, and he never jokes with his training.

The top-rated amateur star is among the new Black Bombers team preparing for the Commonwealth Games in July and August 2026.
He is certainly one of the medal hopefuls after his marvelous display a year ago when he won gold on his birthday.
African Youth Champion (2025): Won Ghana’s first-ever gold medal in the Men’s Flyweight (51kg) division at the African Youth Amateur Boxing Championships in Conakry, Guinea.
National Champion (2026): Crowned the Fans’ Best Boxer at the 2026 National Individual Amateur Boxing Championship after defeating Caleb Mensah in a highly-rated final.
World Stage Performance: Reached the Round of 16 at the 2024 IBA World Youth Championships in Montenegro, where he secured wins against Israeli and French opponents.
