Coach Nuhu Nortey Omaboe, assistant trainer at the Jamestown Boxing Club, has expressed that boxers who train at their gym gain something special, and their performance is splendid.
He noted that Jamestown is a young club but produces high-quality boxing, and it can be seen from their display in the ring.
He said the recent 2026 National Individual Boxing Championship has been very good, exciting, and it has exposed the good and potential best boxers who can represent the nation in international competitions.
Jamestown Gym registered six boxers for the championships, and three are in the finals.
He named their gold medal prospects as Middleweight Desmond Pappoe, Super Heavyweight Daniel Plange, and the sensational showboy of Ghana Boxing, Samuel Plange.
He said Samuel Plange, who stole the show at the Championship on the first day, was robbed on the second day, which even created a misunderstanding among the fans.
Senior Coach Randy Amugi hinted that they protested the result, and it was declared in their favour.
He apologised for whatever mayhem was caused by a section of the fans and hoped for free and fair officiating.
He said some unfortunate verdicts can affect young boxers when they have done their best, only to be robbed by unfair judgment.
The pupil of Prince De Henry Educational Complex, Samuel Plange, said he is very happy and hopes to thrill his fans at the final. His favourite boxer is Emmanuel Tagoe, aka ‘Game Boy’, a former world champion.
His uncle, Daniel Plange aka ‘Fat Joe’, who represented Ghana at the 2023 African Games, also promised to take the gold in his division when he takes on Isaac Asiedu of Charles Quartey Foundation. He started serious boxing in 2019 and wants to achieve something great at the amateur level.
He disclosed that he nearly quit amateur boxing, but came back for personal reasons.
The final is on February 27 at the Bukom Boxing Arena, and boxing fans are going to enjoy themselves.
On the professional front, National Lightweight Champion, Africanus Neequaye, is the face of Jamestown Boxing Club; he has the potential to become a world champion with good management. The club is always grateful to Michael Amoo-Bediako and Streetwise Boxing Management.
