
The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), managers of the national boxing teams, has organised a press conference on Friday, October 2, to inform the media about the Black Bombers (male team) plans and preparations towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
As part of their programme, the Black Bombers will engage the Golden Gloves team of Detroit, USA, in an international friendly boxing competition dubbed ‘Fist of Fury’ at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday. October 10, 2026.
Vice President of the GBF, Nii Gonti Adjor I aka Nii Adama Addy, said Ghana is set to qualify for the next Olympic Games in 2028 with at least four boxers; however, 10 weight categories will be given an opportunity in the encounter.
He hinted that boxing fans have to pay a token to watch the next generation of boxing stars.
Mr. Mustapha Nettey, Treasurer of the GBF, appealed to corporate Ghana to support the Black Bombers to realise their Olympic dreams. He expressed that the engagement is to promote cooperation and partnership to boost sports, culture and tourism.
International Technical Official (ITO) George Lamptey, former President of the GBF and a board member of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), who chaired the press conference, assured that the current Black Bombers squad has been strengthened with experienced boxers like 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Joseph Commey aka ‘Jaguar’ and Henry Malm aka ‘Assassin Jr’.
Present were boxers like Ebenezer Ankrah, Amadu Mohammed and Mathias Ashitey who promised to make a good impression.
Some members of the team’s new technical staff were introduced.
Coach Vincent Akai Nettey was hopeful that the Black Bombers would excel and move on to represent Ghana at the 2026 African Boxing Championship in Kinshasa, Congo.
