Ga Mashie XI provided raw talent, resolute, resilient, and robust in character and action to beat Nungua XI in both female and male football at the 5th Osu Duku Football Championship played at the Osu Presby SHS Park last Wednesday.
The two darling sides featured in the opening game of the annual sports festival, which attracted Mr. John Ansah, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Mrs. Joyce Mahama, President of Women Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG) and African Women In Sports (AWISA), as well as dignitaries from media, business, politics and sports.
An early downpour forced the organisers to shift the female game scheduled for the morning to the afternoon, which favoured the experienced Ga Mashie Ladies willing to swim on the muddy turf and won by two goals against the smart, stylish Nungua Ladies.
The men’s game came on after a few misunderstandings regarding age and weight of some players.
Later, everything was solved amicably, and in the game that started on a very fast note ended in penalties with Ga Mashie carrying the day by a 4-3 scoreline. The star of the match was the goalkeeper of Ga Mashie, who loves to be called ‘Obishie.’
The Ga Mashie fans were led by popular boxer, Bukom Ambitious Tilapia, son of Bukom Banku.
Other communities involved in the tournament, which ends on August 8, 2026, are Mayera. Adabraka, La, Nima, Teshie and Osu.
At stake is a trophy and cash prize of GHC15,000 for the female winner and GHC10,000 for the male winner.
Football fans are encouraged to pass by the Osu Presby SHS Park to watch fantastic football.
