Derek Ankrah and Chinese Investor, Christina Xia, present boxing equipment to nine gyms in Accra

Ms. Christina Xia, a Chinese investor and CEO of Bi-Direct Ltd, has supported Mr. Derek Ankrah, who is contesting for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) executive member position, and Theophilus Laryea of the Ghana Immigration Service, to donate boxing equipment and mosquito repellent to nine boxing gyms in Accra.

The beneficiaries include Panix Gym, Akotoku Academy, Bukom Boxing Gym, Wisdom Gym, Attoh Quarshie Gym, Discipline Gym, Accra Boxing Club, Brehum Gym, and Jamestown Boxing Club.

Ms. Xia said she went to watch a boxing tournament at Bukom and saw that juvenile boxers were using oversized gloves, which inspired her to organise accurately-sized gloves for the kids.

Derek Nii Asah Ankrah, who has been into banking, media, and other social activities, promised to reach other gyms and hoped to add other equipment like head gears, mouth pieces, bandages, and boots in the next presentation.

Coach Elvis Robertson, on behalf of the gym, thanked the donors and promised to train more champions.

Other gym representatives hailed the Chinese lady for her vision and habit of supporting others.

Some members of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), former Secretary General Patrick Johnson, and former deputy head of promotions, Michael Tetteh aka ‘Golden Mike,’ who witnessed the presentation, commended Ms. Xia and prayed that more would follow. They urged delegates to choose candidates who will support the welfare of boxers.

The presentation took place at the premises of the Attoh Quarshie Boxing Club at Jamestown.
