Coached and managed by Lord Kinful, the young boys continued their journey to become superstars in the future with a great display to climax World Table Tennis Day at The Big House.
As part of the celebrations of this year’s World Table Tennis Day, the cadets’ contest was held at The Big House at New Ashongman.
Six clubs represented were The Big House Club and the Blue Rose TT Club of Kasoa. Ping Hopes of Mallam, Chorkor TT Club, Madina TT Club, and Vilcabamba Club of Dansoman.
The event, which attracted sponsorship from the ITTF Foundation, Rightset Ghana, and Spinsight, was very exciting as the young players exhibited their Ping-Pong skills.
Mr Samuel Asare Bediako, initiator of The Big House Table Tennis Club, said the programme was worth it as it was a great opportunity for the young players who would be groomed and turned into future stars. He said the players benefited from the values of sports and urged parents to allow their children to engage in sports activities.
Mrs Samira Mensah, representing Rightset Ghana, congratulated the players and thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the three-day celebrations of World Table Tennis Day in Ghana.
World Table Tennis Day (WTTD) is celebrated annually on April 23 to promote the sport, inclusivity, and health, often centering on themes of development, peace, and community engagement.
Led by the ITTF Foundation, the day encourages playing in diverse locations—parks, schools, and malls – worldwide. It marks the birthday of Ivor Montagu, the first ITTF President.
The key purpose of the day is to make Table Tennis accessible, promote health and well-being, and connect people across cultures.
The day is also celebrated on April 23 to honor the birth anniversary of Ivor Montagu, the first ITTF Chair and founder of the ITTF.
Activities and events on the day include nationwide activations, such as public games in China and “golden table” setups in London to boost public participation.
According to Samira, the events focus on bringing together people of all backgrounds, highlighting sport.
