The Barron Foundation, led by James Boye Doe, aka Captain Barron, has presented football kits from Brentford Football Club in the United Kingdom to seven organizations with people living with disabilities at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium.
According to Captain Barron, he is always touched by vulnerability, and supporting them gives him hope and pleasure.
The organisations that received the items, made up of balls, gloves, boots, tracksuits and jerseys, were Simon Agbotsui Foundation, Go Get Dem, Up & Shine Foundation, Mighty Victory, Skate Soccer Ghana, National Amputee Football team and Ayawoso CP Football Club.
Mr. Albert K. Frimpong, founder of Skate Soccer Ghana, on behalf of the recipients, thanked the Barron Foundation and said that if more of such donations come, it will go a long way in making the disabled athletes happy and feel included in society.
Captain Barron urged the recipients to use the items for the purposes it was meant for. He revealed to journalists that he saw on social media how the disabled footballers were struggling at one point to get kits and funds to travel for an international competition after they had qualified to represent Africa.
He said in the United Kingdom, people with disabilities are given good care, so when he proposed the idea to Brentford FC, they accepted and decided to support.
The Captain Barron Foundation emphasized that their long-term vision extends beyond equipment drives: helping persons with disabilities feel genuinely included in society, and giving them a platform to pursue their individual sporting talent.
This is the second time the Barron Foundation is making a presentation to sports people with disabilities.
