Amadu and Commey chase $20,000 for Gold at 2026 IBA Africa Boxing Championship

Ghana’s Amadu Mohammed and Joseph Commey are one fight away from making some good money for Christmas and the New Year at the 2026 Elite IBA Africa Men and Women Boxing Championship.

Amadu of the Sea View Gym faces Elifas Thomas Kambonde Imene of Namibia in the 57kg featherweight category. In comparison, Commey of Black Panthers Gym clashes with Kevin Admolson of Cape Verde in the 63.5kg light welterweight division.

Both bouts are expected to deliver fireworks and excitement.

With their experience as Commonwealth medalists and knowing what is at stake, every boxer must do something special.

Trust the Black Bombers from Bukom in Accra, led by coach Charles Quartey, to win the favour of the officials.
Ghana featured three boxers; Ebenezer Ankrah fell out at the quarter-finals stage.

The IBA, which runs the championships at the Stade des Martyrs gymnasium until 1 November, has made prize money a feature of its continental events.

Figures cited for Kinshasa are $20,000 for gold, $10,000 for silver and $5,000 for bronze in each of the 25 men’s and women’s weight classes, though organisers had not publicly confirmed the final amounts.

Under the IBA’s standard split, half of each prize goes to the boxer, a quarter to the coach and a quarter to the national federation.

For a medal-winning Ghanaian bronze, that would mean $2,500 for the boxer and $1,250 each for the coach and the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF).
