
The 7th edition of the PRUride Cycling FunRide and Elite Races, sponsored by Prudential Life Insurance, has been scheduled for August 22, 2026, at the University of Ghana, Legon, and September 6, 2026, at the Borteyman Stadium Traffic Light in Accra.
According to the organisers, winners of the 112 km Elite race in both male and female categories will go home with a trophy and cash prize of GHC15,000. There are cash rewards for second to tenth places as well as prizes for the oldest, youngest, and most outstanding cyclists. Participants in the 30km FunRide will receive medals.
Launching the event at the University of Ghana Stadium VIP Lounge on Tuesday, Lawyer Richard Kofi Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), urged Prudential Life Insurance to consider establishing itself with the sports fraternity by taking up the challenge to sponsor the Cycling Federation and ensuring that Ghana is represented at the 2025 Olympic Games in cycling.
He expressed that the courtship of cycling and Prudential must develop into marriage, as they have been consistent.
The races were launched under the theme ‘pedal for health, ride for a green future’ to promote community engagement, healthy living lifestyle, sustainability, and create opportunities.
Mr. Baba Tanko, PRO of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, conveyed a goodwill message from the Minister, Hon. Kofi Adams.
CEO of Prudential Life Insurance, Madam Jane Dornukuor Mingle, hoped that more students would participate in the race, while Mr. Austin Luguthera, Director of Sports and Wellness at the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, revealed the consideration of forming a permanent cycling club to participate in Ghana Cycling Federation events.
He expressed that the University of Ghana is unique with their approach to sports as a tool for development.
Superintendent Dr. Samuel Sasu Mensah of the Ghana Police MTTD and Joshua Kwesi Quist of the Ghana Road Safety Authority were present at the Press Launch to assure support and participation.
Representatives of the Ghana Cycling Federation and staff of Prudential Life Insurance also graced the launch,
