President John Dramani Mahama says government is committed to improving healthcare delivery in Ghana through stronger primary healthcare, a better National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and increased investment in hospitals and health workers.
According to the President, improving healthcare remains an important part of his administration’s agenda as the government works to make quality healthcare more accessible to Ghanaians.
President Mahama said the government is expanding the Free Primary Healthcare Programme to bring basic healthcare services closer to people, especially those living in communities where access to healthcare has been a challenge.
He explained that the programme is not meant to replace the NHIS but rather to complement it by providing free basic healthcare at the primary level.
The President also highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen the NHIS to ensure that people can continue to access healthcare without facing unnecessary financial difficulties.
He said investments are also being made in hospitals, medical equipment and health workers to improve the quality of services delivered to patients across the country.
President Mahama further mentioned the importance of supporting people suffering from serious illnesses, noting that the government is working to reduce the financial burden on families.
He made the remarks while highlighting government’s commitment to building a healthcare system that is accessible, affordable, and responsive to the needs of Ghanaians
