Fire consumes shops at Adum in Kumansi

In the early hours of Friday, March 21, an unexpected fire destroyed several shops in a two-storey building at Adum in Kumasi. The fire started around 6 am and spread rapidly as firefighters attempted to contain the blaze

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Ghana National Fire Service. Meanwhile, traders are claiming that the frequent power outages in the area have contributed to the fire outbreak. Some shop owners report having issues with their electrical equipment due to the unstable power supply.

In a briefing with the media, a National Security operative provided further insights into the situation.

“It started around 5 a.m. We arrived at the scene around 5:15 a.m. The main challenge was gaining access to where the fire had originated. If there had been a clear path, they would have completed their work within 30 minutes. However, some individuals were obstructing their efforts by looting.”

“We had to intervene and arrest some of those individuals. The military also arrived and assisted us. Currently, the fire is spreading towards the Roman Hill area, specifically phase two of the building, and the firefighters are working diligently to contain it. The fire is still active, and water is available in the tenders, but our main issue remains accessing the fire’s location.”
