Ghanaian boxers in money zone at 2026 IBA Africa Elite Men’s & Women’s Boxing Championships

The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF presented only three boxers to the IBA Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship in Kinshasa, DR Congo, due to a lack of funds.

At the time of filing this report, Joseph ‘Jaguar’ Commey of Black Panthers, who was recalled to the Black Bombers to fulfil his Olympic dream, won 3-2 against Dieu Merci Loulendo of Congo Brazzaville in the men’s light-welterweight quarter-final.

African Games champion and Commonwealth Games medalist Amadu ‘Crawford Jr’ Mohammed, the pride of Sea View Boxing Club, is also a guaranteed medal after beating 2022 African champion Armando Rugoberto Sigauque of Mozambique in men’s 55 kg (bantamweight).

Ebenezer Ankrah, also a product of Black Panthers Gym who fought with one hand to win the hearts of boxing fans in Kinshasa, DR Congo after using just his left arm due to injuring his right early in the fight to outclass Eswatini’s Innocent Chawe Gamedze by a unanimous 3-0 verdict to give Ghana a winning start and advance to the quarter-finals in men’s 60 kg (lightweight), will also enter the money zone if he wins today.

Ankrah faces a tough battle against Glasgow 2026 silver medallist, Tryagain Morning Ndevelo of Namibia, in the quarter-finals of the IBA Africa Elite Men’s & Women’s Boxing Championships ongoing in Kinshasa.

The team is handled by Coach Charles Quartey, who is very optimistic that the boxers will shine.

The IBA has put down $1million to be shared among the best boxers; however, the amount awarded to the winner will be divided and distributed to the boxer (50%), his coach (25%), and the federation (25%).
