The Citizens International Hockey Club has marked its 40th anniversary with a special dinner dance and awards ceremony at the Ridge church Hall on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The citations went to Nana Kweku Dankwah Opamago Kodie II, also known as Dr. Benjamin K.D. Asante, former CEO of Ghana Gas, president of the Ghana Hockey Association, and Mr. Kwabena Sarpong Manu, who received special awards,
Mr. Kwame Owusu, Mr. Samuel Ofosu, Prof. George E. Armah, Mr Alex Arthur and Madam Elizabeth King, who have in several ways and capacities served and promoted the club, were also honoured.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of other clubs, and the Guitar Melodies Band dished out superb music, which caught patrons and guests enjoying the event and dancing to the end of the wonderful reception.
Hon. Dr. Nii Noi Ashong and Mr. Adane, former players, displayed their musical talents on the sax and mic, respectively.
Prof Armah, on behalf of the awardees, thanked the Citizens Hockey Club, while Nana Dankwah shared some exciting experiences about where the game of hockey has taken him.
The awards committee was also introduced and commended, with the strong hope that the 50th anniversary would be super grand.
Mr Kwame Owusu, current chairman of Citizens International, in an address during the celebration said the club is now more than a family, and they have won trophies as well as produced national stars and good citizens.
“We are always thinking about how to develop people and make life better,” he said.
He noted that they are celebrating 40 years of love and friendship.
Mr.Ofosu, chairman of the organising committee, commended all those who graced the event.
The Citizens International Hockey Club was founded in December 1985 by some employees of the Ghana Commercial Bank; Mr. Lawrence Adu-Mantey, Mr. Ablorh Quarcoo and others.who have previously worked alongside Adu-Mantey at the bank.
