Armwrestling found me and gave me a job – Poster Boy, Godwin Sackey

Godwin Sackey is a prominent Ghanaian armwrestler and a key member of Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, which won 168 medals at the 2026 (15th) African Championships. He is recognized for his achievements in both continental and international competitions.

Sackey, who is affiliated with the Ghana Immigration Service Sports Unit, was the poster boy of the event.

At the 14th Africa Armwrestling Championship in Abuja (July 2025), he was part of the dominant Ghanaian team that won multiple medals. He was previously noted for winning gold and silver medals at African championship competitions.

He is described as a key member of the team and was set to represent Ghana at the 2024 World Armwrestling Championship in Moldova.

Sackey has spoken openly about his journey in the sport and how it has changed his life, moving from a civilian puller to an established athlete with the Ghana Immigration Service.

“If it had not been for armwrestling, I don’t know where I would be right now; the sport has helped me a lot, taking me even outside Ghana,” he expressed.

He thanked the leadership of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, especially the coaches and Ghana Immigration, for their support.

The Golden Arms team, under Charles Osei Asibe,y aka Barrister, was very successful over the weekend, winning a massive 168 medals at the 15th Africa Championship, the Champions of Africa.
