
The town of Winneba was engulfed in boxing action on the evening of Friday, May 1, for the Aboakyir Fight Night at the Winneba Sports College.
The bouts were exciting, and fans had much to cheer about.
Ayitey Powers, who put together the package, said there were a few challenges, but all were solved later.
He revealed that it was a free show as spectators did not pay anything to watch the exciting bouts.
He noted that the event was to create awareness about boxing as the leading sport in Ghana and also give the people of Winneba some sporting entertainment as they celebrate the Aboakyir festival.
According to the former boxer, he is yet to receive compensation from the National Sports Authority after his bill was called off.
“Hmm, I have not received anything yet, but I can’t be idle and wait; I must be active and do something. That’s why we came to Winneba,” he expressed.
He thanked a few sponsors and partners who supported him in bringing the show alive and making people happy.
Nigeria’s Samuel Opaogun lost to Benin Republic’s Imorou Hanri Tadja Wali for the vacant WBA Africa welterweight title.
WBO Africa Super Lightweight champion Faisal Abubakar won his bout and warned his African challengers. He said his focus is on going for the World title.
Some of the fans were watching live boxing for the first time and commended Ayitey Powers Promotions for the entertainment they brought to Winneba.
