Precious Akai Nettey of Attoh Quarshie Boxing Club has expressed his readiness to win gold for Ghana, his family, fans, and friends at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Precious Akai Nettey won gold on his birthday at the 2026 National Individual Amateur Boxing Championship in the 67kg welterweight category and said he is self-motivated to achieve his heart’s desire.
In an exclusive interview on ‘The Big Fight Night’ on Omashi TV, he revealed taking inspiration from former WBO Africa Champion Emmanuel Martey, aka Mayweather, who is his mentor.
He described Vincent Akai Nettey, head trainer at Attoh Quarshie Gym, as his ‘mallam’ spiritual father.
His parents are boxing fans, Mr. Theophilus Nettey Nettey and Abigail Aryeetey.
According to Precious Akai Nettey, he loves to take advice from elderly people who have gained experience, and he does not like to commit mistakes because that is the creation of weak points.
The product of Sacred Heart SHS with Accounting education believes boxing will make him great, so he never jokes with his training.
Initially, he was not serious due to laziness until Coach Akai Nettey sat him down for professional guidance to develop his talent and skill as a gifted pugilist.
“I realised boxing is what I can do better than anything, and my height encouraged me to be active and aim in my direction to achieve glory and honour through sports,” he said.
Precious described Attoh Quarshie Boxing Gym as a place where boxers are groomed to become real champions.
“We are the best boxing club in Ghana, though debatable, but we can prove it with our achievements,” he started. Some great names associated with Attoh Quarshie Boxing are coach Djarnie Kote,y aka Alloway. Sowah Thompson, Obodai Sai, and Emmanuel Martey are all former WBO Africa champions. George Ashie, aka Red Tiger, is now based in the USA.
Precious Akai Nettey is a nominee in the upcoming Choice Ghana Boxing Awards by Bishop Boxing Promotions.
Supported by a school/gym mate. Wisdom Barnor, who stars for Sierra Leone, hailed their trainers/coaches and prayed for more modern boxing equipment, which they lack.
Barnor is a winner of the Greater Accra Championship and participated in the 2023 African Games in Accra as well as the World Championship in the UAE.
He admires Shakur Stevenson as his idol and wants to meet him in person since his picture was put on the gym and helped him to train hard.
Barnor comes from a boxing home as his grandfather and dad have all boxed before.
