The National Sports Authority (NSA) is set to receive a major boost that would pave the way to address over 450 staff shortages across the country.
The sports authority vacancies are set to be announced for much-needed recruitment once the body receives clearance from the Finance Ministry.
Established under the Sports Act,934 of 2016, the NSA serves as Ghana’s apex body for the development and promotion of sports, to ensure effective monitoring and management of national sporting facilities and the provision of technical support for the various sports associations/ federations in alignment with government policies.
It will be recalled that recent media publications surrounding the emergency recruitment of 17 personnel by the authority have generated a lot of discussions because the individuals have been directed by the Minister of Sports to reapply for the Public Services Commission to normalize their employment and enjoy better conditions of service.
Some key areas affecting NSA staff shortage include technical field officers such as coaches, grassroots sports development officers, and researchers.
It is also understood that the estates, security, IT, and marketing units of the NSA are all woefully understaffed.
One major area of introduction that the NSA has benefited immensely from in recent times is the Operations Unit, which has facilitated and fast-tracked most of the activities undertaken within the NSA in the absence of a governing Board throughout 2025.
However, under the leadership of the current Director General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, several successes have been chalked up, including the recovery of several misappropriated and undocumented assets of the NSA.
The NSA, over the past year, has brought renewed energy, clarity of purpose, and a pragmatic, result- driven leadership approach that has helped to significantly improve image, recover infrastructure, positive federation governance, iGF revenue efficiency, corporate relationships, international diplomacy cooperation, and increased national events coordination.
