Cape Coast – The historic city of Cape Coast is set to witness a monumental celebration of sportsmanship and longevity as the Hill Club, in collaboration with the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), hosts the 2026 Cape Coast Fetu Afahyɛ Tennis Tournament this Saturday, September 5th.
This year’s prestigious festival tournament carries deep national significance as it is officially dedicated to honoring the Club’s revered Life Patron, Professor Bannerman Richter. Approaching his 95th birthday this October, Professor Richter holds the extraordinary distinction of being Ghana’s oldest active social tennis player.
Beyond his remarkable vitality on the court, Professor Richter is being celebrated for his lifelong philanthropy, visionary leadership, and unwavering dedication to the development of tennis in the region.
“Professor Richter is a living embodiment of our motto, Progress Through Discipline,” stated Ken Erskine-Sackey, Chairman of the Hill Club. “He does not just advise us; he leads by example on the court and remains an unfailing pillar of moral and financial support. Honoring him while he can still enjoy his flowers is a profoundly proud moment for our club and the entire tennis fraternity.”
To mark this historic occasion, the Hill Club will host Accra-based McCartey Hill Club in a highly anticipated, competitive inter-club showdown. The event promises top-tier tennis action, special honorary presentations, and a vibrant cultural atmosphere in the true spirit of the Fetu Afahyɛ festival.
National tennis executives, sports enthusiasts, and the general public are warmly invited to the Hill Club courts from 8:00 AM this Saturday to witness the matches and celebrate a true national icon whose life continues to inspire generations.
