The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC), inaugurated on 29th September 2025, has restored professional boxing in Ghana following its suspension.
In recent months, the Committee has introduced strict medical and anti-doping protocols, secured athlete insurance partnerships, and delivered major events, including the Tarkwa Boxing Explosion, Legacy Rise Showdown, Battle of Gbagladza, Cabic Big Fight Night, RBS’s Boxing Masterpiece, and Best of Bukom II, all under enhanced safety standards.
To ensure accountability, the GBIMC submitted a detailed progress report to the Minister of Sports and Recreation and the Director General of the National Sports Authority, alongside a formal request for an extension of its mandate. The extension, granted with clear guidelines, will allow the Committee to complete reforms and prepare for transparent elections.
Stated Reforms – February to April 2026
Elections Calendar – May to June 2026
In the course of its work, the GBIMC has engaged stakeholders across the boxing fraternity, culminating in a major meeting on 18th December 2025 to address governance, legal, operational, and safety challenges.
Outstanding reforms to be conducted under the extended tenure include:
– Reviewing licensing standards and disciplinary codes.
– Establishing the Independent Medical Commission and rolling out Medical and Anti-Doping Protocols.
– Rolling out a digital health database and administrative portal.
– Conducting Orientation/Training Workshops and Certification Programs. Strengthening regulatory oversight.
– Expand insurance and medical schemes.
– Finalize constitutional reforms and oversee credible elections
A stakeholder meeting will be followed by a press briefing to outline the next steps.
The Committee calls on all stakeholders to consolidate the gains made so far to safeguard the future of professional boxing in Ghana.
