The Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) has revised the arrival date for international teams of the 2026 Tour du Ghana to November 12, 2026, and cancelled four stages in the northern regions – Tamale, Buipe, Kintampo and Sunyani.
According to the Secretary General of the GCF, Shabaan Mohammed, the revising was to prioritise athlete safety, safeguarding and logistics,
He said only cyclists licensed by the UCI will be considered for registration.
The adjustments will allow riders returning from the Tour du Faso adequate rest and travel time ahead of the Tour du Ghana.
The Tour will go on as scheduled after the north has been taken out, however power riders, smooth sprinters and strategic rollers will have the opportunity once again to climb the mountains in the Volta Region and ride on some of the good streets in the Eastern Region.
Mr Shabaan Mohammed wished the president of Ghana will follow the example of his counterpart president of Burkina Faso who has increased the prize money for the winner of 2027 Tour du Faso which is going on.
He thanked companies like Kantanka Automobile, Sentuo Group, Promasidor, Prudential Insurance and the Black Star Experience secretariat who have shown interest in the Tour Du Ghana.
“We still welcome more sponsors because it is a Ghana affair and corporate Ghana must support, cycling is a means of transport and promotes healthy living, we are also promoting tourism” he stressed.
