Russia–Africa Summit opens in Moscow

The Third Russia–Africa Summit has opened in Moscow, bringing together Russian and African leaders to strengthen economic ties, expand trade and explore strategic partnerships.

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama is among the leaders attending the two-day summit, which began on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and ends on Thursday, October 29.

The high-level meeting focuses on key areas of cooperation, including trade, energy, technology, agriculture, peace and security, and sustainable development.

For Ghana, the summit presents an opportunity to pursue strategic partnerships, attract foreign investment, and strengthen economic cooperation with Russia.

Discussions could also open avenues for technical collaboration, business expansion and knowledge sharing in sectors critical to Ghana’s development.

Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted agricultural trade between Russia and Africa, stating that Russia exported more than 13 million tonnes of agricultural produce to the continent between January and September 2026.

The summit also provides a platform for African leaders to engage Russia on investment opportunities, industrial development and mutually beneficial economic arrangements.

As Ghana seeks to expand its international economic partnerships, engagements at the summit could help identify new opportunities for trade and investment.

However, the actual benefits will depend on concrete agreements, secured investments, and effective implementation.

The gathering is expected to deepen diplomatic engagement between Russia and African countries while advancing discussions on shared economic interests and long-term development priorities.
