Joseph Frimpong is a product of Carl Lokko’s Bronx Boxing Club. He is one young boxer who has been observed to be passionate and serious about the trade. He is learning fast.
He was spotted representing the Black Bombers against the Metro Detroit Golden Gloves team at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, October 10.
Though he lost the middleweight bout, Frimpong said he was very happy to get the chance to step into the ring.
Initially, he wasn’t in the squad because he was on the youth team, the Black Rockets.
“Since no one was available for the weight and the foreign opponent was ready, I had to step in, and I was not a pushover,” he said
Joseph Frimpong started boxing at an advanced age of 16 years. He had no juvenile experience, but he has been transformed into a good amateur boxer, and after two years, he is coping with the training regimen.
He lost 1-2 to Lamar Stewart III in a hot contest, which was his first international fight.
“I am very happy for myself, and I thank the coaches who gave me the opportunity against the Metro Detroit Golden Gloves. I think I did my best against the American. I am still learning,” he said.
Frimpong revealed he loves watching Mexican and American boxers. He urged the Ghana Boxing Federation to organise more friendly international boxing matches.
As Ghana prepares for the next Olympic Games in 2028, he prays that the light will shine on him to be selected as part of the Black Bombers.
“I want to enter a major tournament or competition before turning professional,” he expressed.
