2026 Youth Olympic Games athletes unveiled at OVEP Programme

The 13 young athletes who will represent Ghana at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, have been unveiled at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon, on Tuesday.

They were showcased at the OVEP programme, an initiative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC):

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) engaged over 100 school kids on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, in an Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP)

“The programme is to teach the [IOC] Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect to young people ahead of next month’s Youth Olympic Games in Dakar- the first to be held on the continent,” said GOC President Richard Akpokavie.

The event runs alongside Team Ghana’s preparation and participation at the Games.

OVEP is also your opportunity to meet and connect with Team Ghana for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal!

The young athletes shared their stories, dreams, and experiences about the Olympic spirit.

The experience was exciting as kids from different schools came out to celebrate the Olympic occasion.

Mr. Evans Yeboah, Chef de Mission for Dakar 2026, was optimistic that Team Ghana would come home with medals.

He said this is the first time the Youth Olympic Games are coming to Africa, and the young athletes must take advantage to shine.

Ghana will be represented in boxing, athletics, swimming, table tennis, badminton, judo and taekwondo.

Presidents and executives of the Federations were also present.

The Games, which will attract 206 nations, are scheduled for October 31 to November 13.
