The nation’s number one boxing venue has not been actively patronised in recent times due to a lack of bouts, but young matchmaker Daniel Donkor cannot sit idle to watch boxers waste their time and energy on fruitless ventures without working.
He has decided to revive the sport and put budding boxers on the spot at the Bukom Boxing Arena under the Osagyefo Fight Night on September 19, 2026
Through Obra Promotions, boxing is coming back to the Bukom Boxing Arena, and the packed bill has young, talented boxers like Michael Decardi Nelson, Klutei Robertson, Gideon Nortey, Joe Antwi, Awumey Nelson, and others on the bill.
According to Donkor, who was on The Big Fight Night on Omashi TV last Friday, the package will be spiced up by Ghana’s leading boxer in the rankings and the only boxer who gave Ghana an Olympic medal in the last 30 years.
He expressed that the promoters and organisations are still working underground to dish out a fantastic Fight Night, so they are working hard to ensure a good package and adequate security and fans.
Donkor has worked with many crack boxers like Abdula Mohammed, Eric Quarm, Elvis Ahorgah, Jessie Lartey and Jerry Lartey. He expressed that Ghana Boxing does not lack talent, but the boxers lack exposure.
The trainer at Goodbox and Fit Square hinted that it would not be long for Ghana to get a world champion.
Speaking on the recent 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where Ghana presented 10 boxers (7 males / 3 females) and came home with one bronze, he said it is not a bad achievement because it was the first international tournament for most of them and they did their best.
He prayed that most of them should be supported to stay with the Black Bombers and target the Olympic Games in 2028 before turning professional.
