Ghana Cycling to participate in the 2026 Commonwealth Games and organise three major cycling events on the 2027 UCI calendar

The Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) has registered and will organise three major cycling events on the 2027 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) calendar, marking a significant milestone in the development of the sport in the country.

In a press release issued on July 7, the federation revealed that the Ghana National Cycling Championships will be held in June 2027, followed by the Bahati Cycling Classic in July and the Tour du Ghana in November.

According to the GCF, the inclusion of the three events on the UCI calendar will provide Ghanaian cyclists with greater opportunities to compete at home while earning valuable international ranking points.

The federation said the achievement strengthens Ghana’s commitment to athlete development and places the country alongside leading West African cycling nations such as Burkina Faso and Benin in hosting internationally recognized road cycling competitions.

GCF also noted that Ghana is taking a leading role in the development of road cycling within English-speaking West Africa and expressed hope that the milestone would encourage other countries in the region to register UCI-sanctioned events.

The federation credited the achievement to the support of the UCI, the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC), the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and National Sports Authority (NSA), sponsors and development partners, especially the media, who promote the sport.

General Secretary Shaaban Mohammed reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to expanding cycling nationwide, revealing that 27 affiliated clubs are currently operating across 10 regions, with plans to establish additional clubs as Ghana seeks to become a leading destination for international cycling competitions.

Meanwhile, Mubarak Shaaban Mohammed will represent Ghana in Cycling at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

“I have prepared well, and I hope to perform remarkably. It will be tough, but I promise to make my country proud.
