‘Ghana House’ at Glasgow 2026 launched by Hon. Seth Tekpe on behalf of the Chief of Staff, Hon Debrah

The Commonwealth Sports Federation of Ghana held its official press and media launch for the “Ghana House” Project on May 6, 2026, at the Ange Hill Hotel in East Legon, Accra.

The launch ceremony for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Initiative was performed by the former Minister of Finance. Seth Tekpe, who represented the chief of staff, Hon Julius Debrah, disclosed that Ghana is going to Glasgow with its characteristics and culture.

He expressed that sports are generational and it’s good to participate, but better to go beyond sports and sell the fashion, food, and culture of the people.

He urged selected Team Ghana athletes to be professional and go the extra mile to win for Ghana.

Sports and Recreation Minister Hon. Kofi Adams said the project serves as Ghana’s official hospitality, marketing, and cultural hub to drive traffic and support the national athletes during the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

He said the Games go beyond medals to business investment, tourism, and diplomacy.

“When athletes win, Ghana wins. Let’s place athletes at the center,” he stated.

He urged Ghana House and Team Ghana to cooperate and move together to achieve the goals set. He emphasized that all sports are important, and there is a need to support every sport

He noted that under President John Dramani Mahama, every sport must strive under the ecosystem in Ghana, and the sports must portray Ghana

Hon.Kobi Wowome, Chairman of the Ghana House Committee, briefed the media on the concept and prayed that it would be beneficial and rewarding.

Mr. Ernest Danso. The Chef de Mission for Glasgow 2026 assured better preparation and an increase in medal haul.

“As CDM for Ghana, I want us to win more medals and show presence on the games platform. We are also focusing on athlete welfare, intensive preparation, and training or camping before the games.

Hooman Nouruzi was there to represent the High Commissioner. He hailed the cordial relationship between Ghana and the UK.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games is viewed as a major business opportunity, with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) looking to promote trade and investment between Ghana and the UK

The CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, was also present, as well as the Director General of the National Sports Authority. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and other dignitaries from related ministries, agencies, and organisations.

The Ghana Sports Supporters Union was there to provide entertainment with Jama songs.

Ghana will compete in 10 sports programmes, including athletics, swimming, 3×3 basketball, track cycling, weightlifting, lawn bowls, gymnastics, netball, and judo.

The Commonwealth Games (XXIII Commonwealth Games) is scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
